Ogonowski vs. Tsongas Again In 2008?

The Campaign Continues….

Did you think I would leave you without saying goodbye? I just got home and it’s 12:42 and I have a few thoughts that I would like to close with.

First, Jim ran a very good campaign. No one thought that Jim could force the Democrats to bring in the Speaker of the House, a former President, countless politicians and raise the amount of money that Niki raised in order to be competitive in Massachusetts. Jim was the underdog from day one and was he was underestimated.

The GOP in the 5th Congressional district is MUCH stronger now than it was before Jim’s campaign. The terms “voter id” and “gotv” are now commonplace among GOP activists in this area and this is a huge benefit to the party. Jim’s campaign was very well run and it brought in hundreds of activists and new faces into the GOP.

Tonight, a chairman of a Republican Town Committee told me that he has a lot of new members because of the Ogonowski campaign and they are energized. This will translate into new candidates, and new activists.

Jim stayed for a few hours with everyone to personally thank them and to mingle with his staff. I think most candidates would leave asap after they lost an election. Not Jim. He is the real deal.

The MassGOP made a few technological advances with this campaign as well. We utilized a new way to conduct voter ID, we raised thousands of dollars through RightRoots and we educated our activists with the latest technology.

Long after Jim spoke, he stuck around with his staff to thank them and meet with volunteers.

If you would like to learn more about Jim’s campaign, and how a farmer from Dracut attracted the attention of Bill Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Deval Patrick John Kerry, and several other Democrats, then we invite you to MassRootsAction - a private training center for you to be as well equipped as possible.

Finally, a lot of people have asked me “why are you not blogging on MassRoots?” I heard the Boston Phoenix even asked the same question. The answer is simple.

The MassGOP is creating a community online. Just as you would stop by your neighbors home in your community, the web also has its friends and allies. The internet is great because it is so free and open. Why not be a guest blogger on another site? We will have gained new readers and potentially new activists and candidates by guest blogging on Hub Politics. It’s reaching out and getting exposure. I wonder if the Phoenix would have given MassRoots and HubPolitics any recognition if we simply blogged on our own site? Seems like it worked already in its own way.

Anyway, I’m exhausted and am going to bed and will be blogging back home at MassRoots. Thanks for having me over HubPolitics and I hope the readers enjoyed the perspective that I provided from the campaign trail with Jim.

We will continue to move forward and the community will continue to grow.

Poll Reporters

Our poll reporters are en route to the polling locations to report numbers back to us.

Meanwhile, the Boston Herald has this story.

I know you all are wanting signs and early indications but there is nothing to report at this moment. The turnout seems to vary by community, too early to make any assumptions.

Talking and Typing

I’m leaving a message for a voter as I type this. We are lighting up the phones to push Jim over the finish line. We are on overflow with our phone bank, I’m using my cell phone but that’s easy since work pays for my cell phone bill. However, there are others in here using their personal cell phones because this election is so important.

Right now, there are no weekend minutes and night minutes have not started yet for cell phones. Dedication.

5:00 Update

A few bumps in the road but nothing to be concerned with. Our team here is fantastic and we have a set process on how to work out problems that arise. Everyone knows their role and it’s making things pretty easy considering the hectic atmosphere. I just took a step out of the staff quarters to snap these two pics of the volunteer section:
