While it comes as no surprise, it is still very disappointing to hear that the national GOP has virtually nothing for Scott Brown in his campaign to take the senate seat vacated by the late Senator Ted Kennedy.
GOP U.S. Senate candidate Scott Brown has been all but abandoned by the same national Republican committees that pumped hundreds of thousands in campaign cash to former governors Mitt Romney and William Weld during their long-shot bids for U.S. Senate.
The snub has outraged local Republicans who say national conservatives should be jumping at the chance to nab the first open Senate seat in decades despite Brown’s tough odds in the Jan. 19 special election.
Again, I’m disappointed, but not surprised.
In addition to select local candidates, I used to donate to national level candidates because we had no national level candidates to help out. Today, I don’t send one dime to national level candidates outside the state, and I send no money to the Republican Party. Why should I? Have they earned it? What have they done for me lately? Ever looked into the amount of money some of these guys make? Sorry folks, but like many others, I don’t make millions a year, and I’m not going to throw any amount of what I work hard for to someone who will forget all about me right after they take office, or after they win reelection; especially out of state candidates, who most certainly aren’t going to fight for Massachusetts in the stead of the non-existent Republican contingent of Massachusetts on Capitol Hill.
The Republicans of Massachusetts, and the independents who lean to the right, have a national level Republican candidate that needs help, and considering the help we get from the national level, it’s time for a change in attitude.
2010 is just around the corner. If the GOP wants to snub us and our candidate, go ahead. But let’s show them we do not appreciate the brush-off: in 2010, send no amount of money to the national Republican Party. Not one dime. They haven’t earned it. Instead, support your local Republican candidates. They need your help.
Scott Brown is only a long-shot if you let him be a long-shot. Support Scott Brown…he is the best shot we will have for a long, long time.

Last week, Maine became the 31st state to reject a referendum that would have legalized gay marriage.
With 87 percent of precincts reporting, gay-marriage foes had 53 percent of the vote in a referendum that asked Maine voters whether they wanted to repeal a law allowing same-sex marriage that had passed the Legislature and was signed by Democratic Gov. John Baldacci.
“The institution of marriage has been preserved in Maine and across the nation,” said Frank Schubert, the chief organizer for Stand for Marriage Maine, which lobbied for the repeal.
For the gay rights movement, which has gained a foothold in New England, it was a stinging defeat. Gay marriage has now lost in every state — 31 in all — in which it has been put to a popular vote. Gay-rights activists had hoped to buck that trend in Maine, framing same-sex marriage as a matter of equality for all families in a campaign that used 8,000 volunteers to get out the message.
Five states have legalized gay marriage — Iowa, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Connecticut — but all did so through legislation or court rulings, not by popular vote.
Portland resident Sarah Holman said she was torn, but decided — despite her conservative upbringing — to vote in favor of letting gays marry.
“They love and they have the right to love. And we can’t tell somebody how to love,” said Holman, 26.
Hold on a minute here…let’s get the record straight. This vote did not outlaw homosexuality, it only outlawed gay marriage. They are still free to love to each other.
While the gay marriage opponents claimed victory, Jesse Connolly, campaign manager for No on 1/Protect Maine Equality, held off conceding until early Wednesday, when he issued a statement vowing to continue to press the issue.
The fight for marriage equality will continue, he told supporters at the Holiday Inn ballroom, where a buffet table included a three-tiered wedding cake — with two grooms standing side by side, two brides standing side by side and the inscription: “We all do!”
And this is why you will never, ever, ever see gay marriage be voted on by the people, and not ushered in by a small handful of judges. The pro-gay marriage movement knows that gay marriage will not survive a vote by the people…and they will stop at nothing to keep you from voting on it.
But hey, if you want to keep electing people that choose to effectively put duct tape over your mouths, by all means…
GOP gadfly Newt Gingrich slammed Bay State Republicans for failing to cultivate a new crop of eager and committed contenders – adding the lagging party needs candidates willing to suffer bruising losses and come back for more.
“I would hope that (the Massachusetts Republican Party) would find some people who care enough about the country’s future to go out and get started and keep doing it,” Gingrich told the Herald. “Republicans here have never been able to build the kind of grassroots strength that you need.”
MassGOP chairwoman Jennifer Nassour said the party has scoured the state for new talent.
“Our candidates for 2010 represent a Republican Party of new energy and new ideas to deliver real reforms to Massachusetts,” Nassour said.
Gingrich, who lectured at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government last night, blamed an alliance between the state’s conservative Democrats and liberals for the GOP party’s struggles.
The former U.S. House speaker called state candidates that run only once “sad,” adding, “When people see you coming and they see you’re serious – you can build a momentum over time that you sometimes can’t get in a first campaign.”
The Massachusetts GOP has recently hit a low with only 16 Republicans in the House and five in the state Senate.
At this moment, my faith in the Massachusetts Republican Party to stop the sinking ship is virtually nil. Sure, we have a golden opportunity to take back the Corner Office, but let’s be honest, it’s not the success of the Republican Party that will make that possible, it’s the failure of Governor Deval Patrick.
The Republican Party needs to do more than just talk about change…they have to start making change.
