It comes as no surprise that Deval Patrick is down in the most recent poll versus both Republican candidates.
Even more interesting still is that Christy Mihos is ahead of Patrick by a larger margin than Charlie Baker, just like he was back in June.
Gov. Deval Patrick is facing eroding political support following an unpopular tax hike, according to a poll released yesterday that showed him losing to scrappy Republican challenger Christy Mihos in the upcoming 2010 election.
The poll by Rasmussen Reports showed Mihos defeating the incumbent Democrat by 5 percentage points, 40 percent to 35 percent, with a margin of error of 4.5 percent.
Patrick was down by 1 percentage point in a matchup with Mihos in a Rasmussen poll in June.
“Making the difficult decisions needed to ensure Massachusetts is the state best prepared to recover from the current economic crisis is bound to impact the latest pollster’s results,” said Patrick campaign spokesman Steve Crawford. “Governor Patrick is making those tough calls, and we’re confident in the outcome.”
The latest Rasmussen poll shows another Republican candidate, Charlie Baker, beating Patrick by 1 point.
It’s been nearly two months since Charlie Baker declared his candidacy, and the Republican rank-and-filers have been swooning over him, and many radio personalities and newspaper editorials have all but declared Baker the victor. So how come Christ Mihos is beating Deval Patrick by five points, and Charlie Baker only by one?
Interesting questions get interesting answers.
CORRECTION: The Boston Herald incorrectly reported on the poll result. The actual Rasmussen Reports Poll shows Deval Patrick ahead of Charlie Baker by one point.

great point aaron. i have been thinking about this a bit and i wonder if baker isn’t in the wrong race. with the passing of teddy, it might be time for charlie to switch gears and run for the special election. christy mihos, with his business experience, owning a major chain of stores, has proven himself to be the type of republican we need in the corner office. he is an executive owner of multiple stores. in other words, he has experience on the level of running many, many departments. while charlie has been a state flack and granted, a ceo too. both those are both hired positions. his experience is more in line with being a senator or congressman. baker should really shift gears and run for senate.
we are very encouraged about the early polling results. our field organization is coming together well and we are now setting our sights on building a first rate campaign finance team. As to the early poll results, we are seeing a nice block of democrats that are choosing our candidacy—this is a good harbinger for the long term. Dick Morris and crew are putting together the first set of ads and he just brings so much to the campaign both here and nationally.
Finally, we are out every day and we will earn the nomination, the hard way. At this point, I am very encouraged and will work even harder as the months go by.
The Bacon Hill gang is beginning to get nervous…their “by invitation only club” may be toppled…interest groups beware, the taxpayers come first when Christy arrives better grab everything you can on the way out!
