Help Change Beacon Hill Beatty Campaign Declares Victory After Debate With Kerry

Patrick’s Job Approval Tanking

by Aaron Margolis, October 18th, 2008 at 11:16am

Governor Deval Patrick decisively won the Corner Office (with nearly 56% of the vote), and with each passing day, buyer’s remorse is getting stronger and stronger. Take a look at his approval numbers in September:

Excellent: 10%
Good: 34%
Fair: 34%
Poor: 20%
Not Sure: 2%

And now look at his October numbers.

Excellent: 6%
Good: 32%
Fair: 39%
Poor: 20%
Not Sure: 3%

Take from that what you may, but it looks to me that voting for someone just because of the race doesn’t make them qualified to governor…or President of the United State for that matter. Maybe it felt good to vote for the black guy, but how good do you feel now?

If the country can learn anything from Massachusetts, let’s hope they can learn that skin color alone is not a qualification for public office.

The Wall Street Journal looks at the parallels between Patrick’s gubernatorial election to the prospect of an Obama presidency.

How funny; the Bay State is rejecting the first administration by a member of the dominant party in many years. Apparently they failed to realize all the Republicans in the governor’s office were doing for the commonwealth.

    Waitin’ patiently for 2010…

Um… these numbers are not bad at all. That’s hardly a shift. Poor didn’t change at all.

Also, the implication that the people of MA voted Patrick in based entirely on race is ridiculous. You might recall that he won in something resembling a landslide.

Peoples vote for this empty suit not based on race? Then what was it, his liberal tax and spend positions, his soft stance on criminals and his love of illegal oops I mean undocumented workers? I would like some one who will still admit they voted for this POS to tell me why PLease dont say change.

oh please… of course people voted for him just because he’s black….

In an episode of the sitcom, Will and Grace, the two end up as political adversaries when they back opposing candidates in a mayoral election.

Political naïveté finds Will backing a city-council candidate because he’s gay, and Grace behind another because she’s a Jewish woman.

To settle matters, the roomies host fund-raisers attended simultaneously by both aspirants.

After listening to each respective candidates stump speech, turns out one’s cruel and heartless and the other’s a racist.

Becoming disillusioned, they both decided not to vote at all.

But when Jack asks, “So, did you vote?”

Will answers, “We don’t deserve to.”

“We just didn’t think it was right to vote for someone without finding out what they stand for.” replied Grace. “Who’d you vote for?” she asks.

    “The black guy.” responds Jack.

Simultaneously, the two reply, “What?! There’s a black guy?!” They both jumped off the couch and ran out to vote for the black guy.

The changes in his approvals are < 4% variations on Excellent, Good and Fair. His negatives have not increased a single percent. Does Margolis know how to read a poll?

What is more shocking is the conclusion based at least in part on this poll, that Commonwealth voters picked Deval Patrick because of his skin color. What has gotten into the drinking water in Republican circles, some colossally stupefying H2O molecules?

What is the converse of Margolis’ argument? 1) If you don’t vote for a candidate due to their skin color, then it will be a good choice or 2) If you vote for the white candidate, you will have made a bad choice or 2A) blacks can govern? About 3, they used to say that about quarterbacks too.

Healey vs. Patrick…. a woman who had been lt. governor, vs. someone who never ran for political office before, who “sealed the deal” because of claims that one of healey’s last ads was evocative of Willie Horton, and was veiled racism… yeah, they voted for Deval because he was black. With out question. it’s a great gimmick–now look what he’s done…. he has less power than all the past republican governors… he can’t get his own party members behind him.

Voodoo…he can’t get his own party members behind him because there isn’t anything for them to eat besides him. Throw another fish in the water and they will leave “Hope and Change” alone.

People love gimmicks. I just wonder if enough people are feeling “buyers remorse” to throw this bum out……oh, wait……who will the GOP throw up against him?
