Gas Prices On The Up

by Aaron Margolis, January 7th, 2008 at 01:15pm

I’m sure everyone has noticed that gas prices have been on the rise for the past two weeks, but we are still five cents cheaper than the national average.

Gasoline prices are up two cents a gallon this week in Massachusetts, topping last year’s highest price.

A statewide survey by AAA of Southern New England found an average price of $3.05 for a gallon of regular, self-serve gasoline, compared with $3.03 a week ago.

The highest average price recorded in 2007 was $3.04 on Memorial Day.

Prices have risen two weeks in a row, and are up a nickel a gallon over that period.

The average in Massachusetts is five cents below the national figure of $3.10 per gallon.

Remember Pres. Bush walking in Texas holdings hands with the Saudi Sheik?

  • 2. Sarge  |  January 7th, 2008 at 4:12 pm

Remember when Clinton did the same…..minus the hand holding?

    No….bet you don’t.

too bad the war in iraq wasn’t all about oil…i bet a lot of people wish it were.

  • 4. Mr. X  |  January 8th, 2008 at 9:13 am

Hey Sarge, what’s with the hand holding? Oh, I know they’re old oil buddies.

Hey Voodoo, enlighten us, oh magnificent one, the war is about….

  • 5. Sarge  |  January 8th, 2008 at 11:00 am

Gee Mr. X……it’s called protocol….look it up. They do that sort of thing “over there”….adult men holding hands…..so why would Bush not do the same as a matter of protocol?

So….Bill Clintonwas Big Oil buddies with the King?
So….GHWBush was Big Oil buddies with the Saudis as well?
    So was Reagan?
    So was Jimmy Carter?

    Gerald Ford?
So will the next President no matter who that is?

You’ve got nothing but the same ole piece of BS rhetoric trying to pin “booga booga” Saudi relations on the current President and party…when they ALL do it, and rightly so.

Call for another round of Congressional hearing on the topic of oil company profits and watch the price of a barrel of oil plummet. The speculators on Wall Street are making a killing too. $3.10 for a gallon of gas and $3.62 for a gallon of heating oil. Call for the hearings and we all win.

  • 7. Sarge  |  January 8th, 2008 at 3:13 pm

“Oil companies” make the same “average 9-11 cents/gallon” profit no matter WTF the price of a barrel of oil is. They make “record profits” when “record gallons” are used…..in the global market.

Wanna guess how much profit the government makes on the same gallon of gas?

Someone’s making money!!!!! That’s gotta stop!!! Call a hearing!!!!

  • 8. Sarge  |  January 8th, 2008 at 3:22 pm

BTW….”they” don’t want a “hearing” because then “they” would have to talk about how much the government makes you pay $3+ per gallon and not the “companies”…..see…the government does not like to talk about their revenue generators that you don’t see in your itemized pay stub……the fuel tax, the cigarette tax, the booze tax.

Break it down…..the companies make about 9 cents a gallon after paying for extraction, transportation, refining, and transportation. I think Exxon made 9.7 cents per gallon last year.

The fedgove makes 18.4 cents per gallon.

The state makes from 10 to 33 cents per gallon. MAss makes 23.5 cents per gallon.

The “government” makes 41.9 cents per gallon…..the “companies” make 9 cents per gallon.

…..and they don’t WANT to talk about it in a lame hearing.

Reagan, GHWB, Clinton, GW, whoever is next—

It is WAY past time for alternative energy..

$3.10 $4.00/$5.00!!! I really don’t like my country having to deal with Middle East maniacs, or South American dictators.

  • 10. Sarge  |  January 8th, 2008 at 4:54 pm

“Alternative energy” is a nice catch phrase in the war of the words to get libs all wiggly-feel-good…..and some things like biodiesel might be fine for an individual.

….but it takes massive amounts of energy to get the People to work every day.

…to get food from CA to MA.

…to get your Playstation-15 and X-Box-1180 to the stores.

That massive amount of energy is not going to come from biodiesel. It’s not going to come from solar cells. It’s not going to come from hydrogen cells….or ethanol…or windmills strapped to your ass. None of those sources can generate the sheer horsepower needed to haul all our goods to everyone in the nation…..but gasoline and diesel fuel CAN.

What will replace our current system is a new technology other than the conbustion engine……..when we NEED to come up with a new technology because oil is non-existant…..we will. Until then, we will suck it out of the ground from wherever we can and as environmentally friendly as we can….and make deals with those dictator a-holes for the rest.

The Commonwealth’s gas/diesel thru-put is about 3.2 billion gallons annually. Guess which Governor increased the gas tax by 2cents per gallon in April 2003 by executive order and took the revenues into the General Fund? CLUE: its the same Governor who said that he never increased fees, fines and taxes during the Administration stay.

Ok Sarge that makes sense, but WHY will we wait until it is “non-existent”? We NEED to start working on that “new technology” NOW!

  • 14. CCFK  |  January 9th, 2008 at 10:31 am

Voodoo Daddy…even if the war in Iraq had been all about oil the Bush administration would have screwed up getting Iraqi wells pumping again as much as they have screwed up every other aspect of the post-war reconstruction.

  • 15. Sarge  |  January 9th, 2008 at 1:01 pm

Knight…..because THAT’s when funding will flow from private companies to private institutions to generate a new technology…..when we HAVE to. As in…it won’t be profitable neough UNTIL we have to…for the companies to part with their money. They won’t wait until the last minute…but damned near it.

Hey Sarge, nice pictures of the former presidents…not one holding hands…thanks for doing my leg work and making my point…the rest of you, useful idiots, should listen to Christy(above)these oil babies are laughing at all of you as they grab you by your boots, turn you upside and shake evry last cent out your pockets…when I read your comments,I’m reminded of Ricky Nelson’s tune…”Poor little Fool(s)”

I’m wondering Mr. X……..what do you drive?

  • 18. Sarge  |  January 10th, 2008 at 11:38 am

Gee Mr. X…..what friggin’ point do you think you’ve made?

That Mr. Bush has a protocol advisor? How DARE he have a protocol advisor!!!

That Bush is secure in his sexuality such that he can follow protocol with foreign leaders by holding hands with a grown man like they do “over there”? How DARE he!!!!

The point you were TRYING and failing at making is that Bush has a business/policy/dealings relationship with the Saudis that’s different from the last POTUSes and that Bush’s relationship/policy/dealings relationship is to blame for the $3+ gas prices.

That point has not been made….only claimed/insinuated.

  • 19. Mr. X  |  January 10th, 2008 at 2:43 pm

Sarge, if you really think that Bush’s protocol advisor suggested he stroll hand in hand with the Saudi’s , the moon bats have nothing on you. So none of the other President’s knew or accepted the hand holding protocol? Look! Never mind hand holding, what’s with all these men everywhere hugging each other? Real men don’t hug except by exception and you know what I mean by that…the feminazation of America led ironically by that cowboy from Texas. Funny, Hillary cries and right wing lunatics like Carr and Limbaugh go ballistic, but Romney cries (3x we know of ) and well, that shows he has compassion. Can we (men) just have a nice handshake like the old days? Let’s leave the crying, hugging and hand holding to women…VIVA LA DIFFERENCE! P.S. for V…I drive an fuel efficient American car unlike most R’s who support our trading enemies.

  • 20. Sarge  |  January 10th, 2008 at 3:16 pm

Bush has nothing to do with the feminization of America. That started in the late 80’s and exploded through the 90’s Oprahfication until today.

    “Metrosexuals” came about in 1994.

I’d agree that Bush didn’t “end” it by being a real man’s man……and I fully agree with you that I miss the good ole days of a firm handshake…not the dead fish some “guys” throw outthere for you to shake.

    Turns my stomach….blech.

What’s Bush holding the King’s hand gotta do with the price of gas going up?

  • 21. V  |  January 11th, 2008 at 6:26 am

“Fuel efficient American car”????? Which one? FYI Mr. X, “the average of the top five American cars gets 27.4 mpg in the city and 33.2 mpg on the highway, while the average of the top five Japanese cars get 46.2 mpg in the city and 49 mpg on the highway. This equates to 68% better gas mileage in the city and 48% better gas mileage on the highway for Japanese cars.”

And, funny thing is Mr. X, it’s union labor that unloads the cars off ships and transports them to final destination if they are made in Japan. If they are made in America, guess what Mr. X? More American labor………

The “buy American” thing is a canard.
