As Deval Patrick struggles to find “new” ways to generate revenue for the state, perhaps he should be looking at his own office and cutting the unnecessary jobs he’s added.
Gov. Deval Patrick has hiked his office payroll by $1.1 million since taking charge, a 33 percent jump over what former Gov. Mitt Romney paid his staff in 2006, a Herald review found, even as a top House lawmaker now warns of deep cuts to key state services.State records show that Patrick has nearly quadrupled the number of employees in the governor’s office making more than $100,000 a year, with 11 top advisers and lawyers making six figures compared to three during Romney’s final year.
Overall, the governor’s office budget jumped to $4.4 million this year compared to $3.3 million in 2006.
“These increases seem exorbitant given the fact that they’ve sounded the alarm about the potential deficit,” said Senate Minority Leader Richard Tisei (R-Wakefield), referring to Patrick administration projections of a $1.3 billion gap in fiscal 2009.
Who needs casinos when you could just be a Deval crony and get a useless job at the State House paid for by the taxpayers?
Now, when Mitt Romney was governor, he voluntarily chose to forgo his salary because of the state’s fiscal situation (as did Kerry Healey). Deval Patrick, who is also independently wealthy, chose not to, despite his claims of the state’s dire fiscal situation when he came into office.
So according to Deval, the state’s budget is so tight that certain departments budgets can be cut, while he can not only accept a salary he can afford not to take, try to stick taxpayers with the bill for $12,000 drapes, and add a whole bunch of new and unnecessary jobs to his office?
Is this what he calls the politics of hope?

Where is THE ANNOINTED ONE(TAO) to save us? Hey, instead of fretting about Deval’s payroll, will someone ask TAO how much MASSHEALTH is going to cost Ma. taxpayers…I have run out of toes and fingers using each one for a hundred million…Am I right TAO?
Where have our “friends” from GOP HQ gone? Are they all working for TAO?
TAO?
I’ll take the bait. I must have missed something.
Heard that Duval said his first year as governor has been a gas…he means it — his price keeps going up and up….let’s call him the Big Oil Man..
GOP footsoldier…TAO (The Annointed One) is none other than: “Revolving Door” Charlie Baker a.k.a. Harvard Pilgrim’s Million Dollar Man…everyone knows he’s the next governor…he’s been annointed, groomed and soon he will be “appointed” although Andy Card is making some noise in the background…could there be a rift and a replay of the Weld/Cellucci v. Malone game which has evolved into the Romney v. Guliani match-up? Card must be with Guliani since everyone in Texas is… so THE ANNOINTED ONE must be with Romney which should be no surprise since his form,er boss,”Big Red” is campaigning in NH for THE MITTSTER (Wonder if they they know about this in Iowa, SC etc?)
Mr. X;
I don’t know of anyone besides you who considers Mr. Baker “annointed”. Just beacuse YOU say so, doesn’t make it the truth.
V! What song are you humming these days…”Don’t get around much anymore”? Let’s just say I am the fly on the wall(hrummmph, there’s no fly’s here my good man!) at Locke Obers where our rulers meet to decide these things…don’t tell me you think the people decide?
I’m not humming anything Mr. X, but I’m guessing you are humming Dr. Demento’s “Mental Hospital” (aka Funny Farm).
I don’t get to Locke-Ober much since I’m not paid by public tax funds. Nor am I likely to go there “on the arm”. I’m guessing that unless you are bussing tables, or are one of our “rulers”, you don’t get there much either.
Either way, I think you just make this stuff up as you go………
Although I’ve heard many on the right level reasonable criticisms of Romney since he left office, I really miss him now that big-spending Gov. Patrick’s in power. Romney was the only electable fiscal and social conservative in 2006, and he gave that up so he could run for president on a platform little better than Giuliani’s or McCain’s.
V! I was only a few points off in my prediction about the Tsongas race…make sure you keep track of my predictions…Hillary ‘08, TAO in 2010. See you at Locke-Ober’s …it is amazing that they don’t charge an admission fee…
Dude, I think you’re obsessing over Baker a little too much. Sure he is a potential candidate down the road, but there are many others too. Your obsessionis a bit curious. You comment on this for literal every post on this site I’m not sure anyone shares you opinion of his “TAO” status.
Even if he were(which again just because you say its so doesnt make it true) what would be the scandal of his candidacy (except hes a “revolving door” type-so say you). How is Baker a revolving door type by the way? I can see if he was a senator or congressman turned lobbyist. Now I know there can sometimes be lobbying on the part of an HMO President -but I just fail to see how its the old “revolving door”. We should be so lucky to have a revolving door of successful businessman in politics.
Revolving Door Examples:
Trav
Coughlin
Finneran-before he got pinched
In DC:
Trent Lott
Tom Daschle
etc etc etc
Charlie Baker doesn’t exactly fit the “revolving door” bumper sticker slogan. Of course I dont want to be construed as a minion of “The Annointed One” : “Look he’s already got his minions out there defending him!” -honestly I think your conspiracy theories are a little much.
SSR! Going from Sec. of HHS under Weld to Harvard Pilgrim Pres. isn’t revolving door? LOL
You and V must be putting me on…keep bashing those little guys…the mailmen, the tolltakers, cabdrivers etc. that’s the way the big boys like it…keeps you distracted from where looking at where the real $$$ is.

Hey Mr. X, since you know everything, where was CB before he was Sec of HHS???
Maybe you ate a bad mushroom or something…….
I don’t see where SSR bashed any “little guys”, but why let that get in the way of your diatribe.
Funny Mr. X, you sound like one of those guilt-ridden rich people……
V! Although I frequently hum tunes from Fiddler on The Roof, I am not a rich man, just a simple Christian who knows how the game is played by the elite…they are the real perpertrators of class warfare …instigating the lower and middle classes to battle it out for the scraps…damn puppeteers!
