Devalian Transparency: Secrecy
by Matt Margolis, November 14th, 2007 at 01:34pm

Yesterday, the State House News Service reported (via BostonNOW)on Deval’s closed-door meetings, which are justifiably irking those of us who remember Deval promising a new era of transparency in government:
With the help of 150 volunteer advisers and counselors, an 18-member leadership council and some 13 subcommittees, Gov. Deval Patrick is attempting far-reaching reforms of the state’s education superstructure - the first in about 14 years. But much of it appears to be happening behind closed doors, drawing criticism from some.
House Minority Leader Bradley Jones criticized what he sees as a double standard, noting that a Study Commission on Corporate Taxation, created by Patrick and House and Senate leaders to examine streamlining the state’s tax system and consider the governor’s proposals to close corporate tax loopholes, was established through a press release. The tax code commission, which meets today, and its subcommittee meetings are open to the public.
“It’s disappointing,” said Jones, a North Reading Republican.
This is eerily reminiscent of past reports of Deval’s volunteers being forced to sign confidentiality pacts.

Who will begin the process to amend the state constitution to allow for recall? If we had it now…

Hmmmm…..maybe Christy could use this as a springboard to…….oh, nope….wait a minute……how would this get back at Swifty and the republican establishment? Never mind……..

Hell, I get wacked by real truth for being anti-R and previously for being anti-D….what am I a misanthrope? Oh and V, can we try a little merit/fact based conversation instead of constantly bringing up the tragedy and the great loss of the people of the Commonwealth, I speak of, of course, Christy’s defeat. There would be strawberries in February if The Man From Brockton had won!

Ah, Mr. X…….. you asking for facts is like Hillary asking for fair treatment. It is comical at best. As for the merit/fact issue….point out where I am wrong instead of using your Obama-like misdirection.
I just think that if Mr Strawberries were serious, the recall issue could be an excellent way to make/keep himself relevant.
I simply point out that his campaign for the corner office was based more on revenge than a true desire to inhabit that once hallowed location. Is it really a defeat when you had no chance in the first place?

I did all that I could to win. we had a wonderful group of people that took on all issues and did not stand with the insiders and political elites in the Commonwealth. Revenge as you characterize it was never an issue. It was the manner in which our State was being mismanaged that got me into the race. People continue to leave the Commonwealth and its not going to get any better with this current crew. Casinos, billions to Biotech, won’t turn it around. We’re in for tough times and again, I see nothing on the horizon that will alter the effects of corrupt and mismanaged government.Where’s the increase in local aid with a $440 million surplus last year. Thanks for caring enough to provide comments. Thanks also the Mr. X— christy

Christy, if that is you…..
If what you say is true, you should be in the paper or on the news every day railing against all of this. Have you lost your voice?

it is me and when I am called or have the opportunity to comment Mr. V I do. yet all this was front and center in a well watched Gubernatorial race–and you know that 92% of the voters cast their ballots against yours truly. Yet, I am truly saddened by the daily dose of news that comes our way and its effect upon our fellow Taxpayers. You have not heard the last of me—2010 is coming! thanks again, for your valued counsel and Happy Thanksgiving. christy

Well V? Here’s The Brockton Boxer Himself! Don’t you wish you (and a few others) could change your vote? Do I hear Cher singing in the background? “If I could turn back time.”
