MassGOP Announces New Executive Director

Robert Willington, formerly the Political Director of the Massachusetts Republican Party was announced as the new Executive Director of the Party. The following press release was released by the MassGOP:

The Massachusetts Republican Party today announced Robert Willington of Rockport, MA as its new Executive Director. Willington’s appointment was confirmed by a vote of the MassGOP Executive Committee earlier this week.

“Rob has proven himself as a capable and innovative leader in the MassGOP. He is a person I can count on in our efforts to grow the grassroots, and return two-party competition to Massachusetts,” said Peter Torkildsen, Chairman of the state Republican Party.

Willington who has been the MassGOP’s Political Director since January, 2006 has experience in state representative, congressional, gubernatorial, and presidential campaigns. Willington was campaign manager of the largest ballot initiative in the history of the Commonwealth, the VoteOnMarriage.org signature drive that collected 170,000 signatures.

Willington graduated from Salem State College where he studied Political Science and went on to become the Executive Director of the Massachusetts Alliance of College Republicans. As a leader in the College Republicans, Willington recruited and mobilized thousands of Republican students on campus for GOP causes.

Under Willington’s leadership, the College Republicans worked for first-time state representative candidate Paul Loscocco from Holliston. Willington went on to work for State Representative Paul Loscocco as his legislative aide from 2002 to 2005. While working in the State House, Willington studied campaign management at Suffolk University.

‚ÄúPeople are fed up with high taxes in Massachusetts, which pays the 4th highest combined tax burden in America. I can’t wait to get started training activists and assisting candidates as Executive Director. I’m looking to help build a dedicated network of knowledgeable activists that can effectively carry the GOP banner throughout the Commonwealth. The change starts today,‚Äù Willington said.

  1. V says:

    Tom,

On second thought, you just aren’t worth it……

  2. Tom Lang says:

Sorry “V” it is just such a shame that the Party of my Parents, which can’t even keep the Saltonstalls anymore among its ranks, finds it more effective to turn to the homophobes, radicals and wannabees instead of truly attempting to revitalize from within on things such as standards, character, integrity and the betterment of our Commonwealth.

    Too bad, so incredibly sad.

  3. Voodoo Daddy says:

i think it is sad that Tom thinks that just because someone doesn’t believe that homosexuals should be allowed to marry means that he/she is a homophobe. And then, of course, to suggest the entire Republican Party is homophobic by means of not believing that gay people should marry is also misleading and such a broad generalization that the argument is self defeating.

Tom, does that make you a Republicanophobe because you hate Republicans?

  4. V says:

    Tom;

I’ve posted many times on here about the radical homosexual lobby. The tactics that they use, the language and the accusations. I’ll not go all through that again.

What is sad is that you just can’t tolerate someone who does not think as you do. You want for yourself what you will not allow for others.

  5. Mr. X says:

Listen up everyone! Give Tom L bus fare and say “have a nice day” …agreed?

  6. Tom Lang says:

Rob Willington referred to gays as “evil”

Now I wonder which one of you pseudonymous commenters can tell me what good that does for society?

And Voodoo Daddy, where did I say that the entire Republican Party is homophobic? Willington is (obviously) and Torkildsen is an enabler.

But I never would have called my dear friend Bill Saltonstall a homophobe.

  7. Mr. X says:

Tom your home is in the D party…

  8. Tom Lang says:

And Madame X, when you identify yourself you will potentially have some credibility.

  9. Knightbrigade says:

Trolls who want to push their agenda, how wonderful…Like that will win people over.

  10. Tom Lang says:

Another commenter with a reason to hide his identity it seems…

What is your problem? I thought you were all proud to be Republicans. Evidently, you must be ashamed of something to not put a real name to your sentiments.

  11. Mr. X says:

Tommy L, you and your friends in the thought police (i.e. politically correct)have forced honest commentators underground. Diversity is really a code name for orthodoxy and/or repression… need to go now and get back to reading Orwell again. Need any bus money?

  12. South Shore Republican says:

    Tom,
… then again, as V said, you’re just not worth it.

Having close friends on either side of the issue you love to exploit -I can say this much: you’re not a help to anyone. It has nothing to do with your beliefs Tom, but you represent everything thats wrong in American politics today. Seriously, when are you just going to go away…

  13. I think Tom is absolutely right. And what is wrong with you people siding along side a horrible bigot? Anyone who calls gays evil in a public arean doesn’t have the tools for public office period. Republican (read as hipocrit), Democrat (read as ‘no balls’) or real human. Any of the 3. So this ISN’T a party issue. It’s the fact that you want a homophobe to lead you. I personally wouldn’t want Willington to represent me for ANYTHING, ANYWHERE. He’ll go down like Craig, Hassert and the rest of the people who think their religon counts for anything to anyone else. Because it doesn’t. Oh btw – how is that Same Sex Marriage thing going for you guys? Anyone’s marrige feel “less than” these days?

  14. Tyler Dawbin says:

Thank God we have someone as capable, talented, young, and energetic as Rob serving the Mass GOP. Rob, best of luck to you in your new appointment!

Tom, Ryan, we meet again…and yet you still haven’t learned, have you?

  15. South Shore Republican says:

    Ryan,

Rob doesn’t serve in any public office, he is the Executive Director for our state Republican party. He’s not a homophobe, he just disagrees with this radical and new idea of gay marriage -thats his right and its your right to disagree. He just doesn’t like the idea of a state sanction on the union, he’s not for policing anyones behavior no matter how much he disagrees. I’m pretty sure he still has that right and that we’re still a constitutional republic.

  16. Tyler Dawbin says:

Homophobe isn’t even really a word…how many people have you seen running and screaming when they come across a homosexual?

It’s a new phrase meant to be divisive, and meant to label anyone that doesn’t agree with their agenda 100%. Against SSM? Homophobe! Against teaching kids in schools about homosexuality? Homophobe! Against Boston’s Gay Pride Parade, an in-your-face display of everything bizarre about homosexuality, and totally inappropriate for children? Homophobe, homophobe, homophobe!

In other words, I don’t think you’re going to win this argument with him.

Rob is a GREAT appointment to the seat and I’m looking forward to seeing how he will grow the party in this state. About 45% of Mass…maybe 40%…is conservative. And even in the middle, there are a lot of undecideds who could be easily swayed given what Devolve Patricia is doing to this state!
