Boston Mayor Tom Menino, who has reigned over Boston without any affect on the upsurge in violence, is criticizing former Governor Mitt Romney for being a member of the National Rifle Association and claiming to be a lifelong hunter.
An infuriated Mayor Thomas M. Menino yesterday slammed former GOP governor Mitt Romney for boasting about his National Rifle Association membership and “bragging” about shooting varmints with a semiautomatic, even as his former capital city is besieged by gun violence.
“How could you be hoping to talk about public safety in this country when the proliferation of illegal guns is at an epidemic stage and you are proud to say I am a gun proponent,” Menino said.
“It’s nothing to brag about for votes. That’s what he is doing. He wants to use this as a way trying to get votes, bragging about guns.”
Well Mr. Mayor, weren’t you the one who made the claim in a campaign ad that you have been effective as mayor in reducing crime, yet, violent crime is up 11% in the Hub. It was you and then Police Commissioner Kathleen M. O’Toole who kept blaming the rising crime on everything else. It was you and O’Toole who presided over rising crime rates, and not enough police officers making it on to the streets. It was your pathetic gun buyback program that did nothing to reduce gun violence. Like you said Mr. Mayor, the new cops coming to the force this year, it’s only part of the solution–what else do you got?
Once again Mr. Mayor, you are blaming someone else for your shortcoming. You are the Mayor of Boston, not Mitt Romney. This is your quagmire, Mayor Menino.

Menino is a blowhard fool. will he ever admit that anything is his fault?
ain’t holdin’ my breath
While Menino is a horrible mayor when it comes to public safety, Romney is a complete moron for saying he is a lifelong hunter. Romney straight up lied. Any Republican but Romney for the nomination….
I’m a Romney supporter, just to be clear, so I am a bit biased in this. I don’t have much of a strong view on guns, I agree with everyone’s right to possess one. So does Mitt Romney.
Who really cares about Romney’s hunting history? Even if it was an outright lie and he never went hunting before, he’s clearly not saying it with the intention of banning guns or stopping hunting, he is saying it because he is a proponent of hunting (regardless of his ability to bag 10 deer a season). Do you really expect a governor or a self-made businessman to be out hunting everyday? Or more than maybe once a year? I consider myself a lifelong sport fisherman, but I only get out to the ocean once, maybe twice, a year (if I’m lucky). It doesn’t mean i’m any less of a fisher, or supporter of fishing; i’m simply too busy to enjoy every hobby of mine all the time. Most of us urban types don’t get out of the city often, remember… Its very hard to hunt in a city (like Boston) or sportfish in a city (like DC).
Mumbles Menino can go pound sand…
As a PROUD member of the NRA, I find it insane that Menino can equate Romney and the NRA as being associated AGAINST public safety.
A LAW abiding GUN owning citizen, HAS to be against public safety!!!????? because he or she owns guns???!!
“How could you be hoping to talk about public safety in this country when the proliferation of illegal guns is at an epidemic stage and you are proud to say I am a gun proponent,” Menino said.
Jackoff Menino can’t even figure the difference between LEGAL and ILLEGAL….likely because of his moonbat agenda of dislike ALL guns no matter WHO owns them.
Again, go pound sand Mumbles.
No, Tom, I don’t expect Mitt Romney to have been a “hunter all my life.”
I also did not expect him to have become such a garden variety dissembler between Belmont and Pennsylvania Avenue.
In fact, I find your comment quite funny. It’s as though you’re giving him a pass for lying because, well, he’d really like to have been a hunter all his life, but he just ddn’t have the time and all.
Wake up. Our squeaky clean guy in the white hat has changed (or had us fooled all along). He said something that he knew when he said it was a false statement, he got caught, and he hasn’t had the courage to come out and admit his fault and apologize. Just flaks out front, blocking and tackling.
“I agree with everyone’s right to possess one. So does Mitt Romney.”
Sorry, I gotta fly the bullshit flag on that one.
If he was such a champion of “everyone’s” right to bear arms, you’d never know it based on his refusal to stand up to the Jarrett Barrios’s and Mayor Menino’s of Massachusetts, and demand reform to the state’s bigoted gun laws.
Through his silence, he endorsed the current system of firearms licensing in Massachusetts. The system that prohibits a working, single mother in Dorchester from buying a handgun to protect her family from harm, while allowing a rich, white, upper-class resident with political connections to purchase, possess, and carry any weapon he or she desires.
Romney never even tried to fix the system to restore 2A rights to ALL Massachusetts residents. In fact, he campaigned for Governor on the promise that he WOULDN’T “weaken” the state’s gun laws.
Because, God forbid, the poor black folk enjoy constitutional rights too.
Mitt’s a two-faced clown.
And, Aaron, you missed the most disgusting aspect of what Tommy “Police State” Menino said there.
See my post over at No Looking Backwards for the dirt.
The point here is that Mass has some of the strictist gun laws in the country but gun crime still exists. Menino has to tackle this plague of gun violence, Mayor Giuliani did so in New York. We all remember New York before and after Giuliani dont we? Stop blaming other people and start striving to fix the problem.
Don’t worry, Menin-Yo has a plan………
he’s fighting Global Warming!
