Random Bag Searches Return To The MBTA Kennedy Gets Into The ‘Defend Deval’ Act

Deval Patrick Is No ‘Outsider’

by Aaron Margolis, October 7th, 2006 at 09:59am

At the second gubernatorial debate, a question about maintaining a two-party system in Massachusetts and how, as governor, each candidate would serve as a check on the 87% Democratic legislature.

Clearly, a question where Deval Patrick was at a disadvantage, being the Democratic nominee. His answer was laughable.

I think the balance people have really been voting for is a balance between an outsider in the corner office and a fairly entrenched, inward-looking political establishment, not just limited to the legislature, but people who get to play no matter who the governor is. I bring that outsider’s perspective.

With such a long standing trend of keeping a Republican in the corner office to maintain some semblance of balance on Beacon Hill, Patrick tried to rationalize the need to return to one-party rule by suggesting that balance is about having an outsider’s perspective in the Corner Office, which he claims he can offer.

Deval Patrick an “outsider”?

Does an “outsider” have closed door meetings with Senate President Bob Travaglini and House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi, at which they pledged their support and fundraising ability? Does an “outsider” have a meeting with the insider’s insider, former Senate President William M. Bulger? Deval Patrick an “outsider”? Can you legitimately call yourself an outsider after having spent three years during the 1990s in Washington as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights? Do “outsiders” have photos of themselves shaking hands with President Clinton on their campaign website, or touting endorsements from scores of entrenched Washington politicians?

Deval Patrick an “outsider”? Quite the contrary.

Instead of that “No Ordinary Leader” BS, how about this for a tagline:

    “Deval Patrick: The Insider’s Outsider.”

Boy, you guys are sure sounding desperate. When will the post come out that he is not really black, but a muslim from Syria? Boy, you are nasty little bastards, you closed minded clones. It’s sure going to feel good to celebrate Deval’s (our) win.

    SD Clams,
That was in lieu of an actual point, right? Make all us troglodytes look silly by articulating just one of Deval’s positions. (Someone has to, don’t you think?)

    Whoop, there it is:

Deval’s strategy: adopt no positions, when attacked send out flaks to cry racism. Make the claim that Deval is not being attacked on his positions (the ones he does not take.)
