Hubris Gone Wild: 87% Democratic Legislature Overrides Romney Vetoes Romney To Clean Up The Turnpike Authority

Senator Kerry Wants Universal Healthcare

by Aaron Margolis, August 1st, 2006 at 01:44pm

Senator John “If I Were President…” Kerry is criticizing both Republicans and Democrats for not working harder to “guarantee universal access to healthcare” by 2012.

Senator John F. Kerry yesterday proposed a federal requirement that all Americans have health insurance by 2012, and scolded Republicans — and his fellow Democrats — for not taking bold stands to guarantee universal access to healthcare.

Kerry, a Massachusetts Democrat, used a Faneuil Hall speech to label healthcare “the great unfinished business of half a century.” Though he laid most of the blame on Republicans and the Bush administration, he made clear that he believes Democrats haven’t done enough to find solutions for the more than 45 million Americans who lack health insurance.

“Our party will be hollow in purpose, expedient, and short-sighted until we renew — and finally win — the battle to make healthcare a right and not a privilege for every single American,” Kerry said.

“We can’t triangulate this issue,” he added. “The Democratic Party must stand for healthcare for all Americans, or we don’t stand for anything at all.”

You mean to tell me you don’t also stand for increasing taxes and spending, baby killing and bringing down whitey?

This plan doesn’t seem to include the language Kerry was using when he running for president, when he said he wanted to give every American access to the same healthcare plan as members of Congress have. I guess he’s abandoned that idea.

The sad thing is that Senator Kerry doesn’t realize we already have universal access to healthcare in this country, and we already pay up the nose for it. Has an emergency room ever turned anyone away (including your precious illegal aliens), Senator? Oh sure, maybe giving everyone the ability to go through the insurance channel of paying for medical expenses sounds better, but in the end, who do you think still ends up paying for it? You got it, we the tax paying public will have to foot the bill; whether it’s in the form of a federal or state subsidy for an economically burdened emergency room, or in the form of a tax increase to pay for this universal health insurance.

I’ve got news for you, Senator: healthcare is a privilege, not a right.

There is no commandment that says, “Thou shall have healthcare.” There is no phrase in the constitution that guarantees the right of the people to have an HMO or a PPO. Healthcare is a privilege, not a right.

Get that through your thick Botoxed skin.

You know, this also begs the question, where is Kerry’s Healthcare Bill that would provide universal access to healthcare? He is a Senator, isn’t he? What’s he doing on Capitol Hill these days besides being a sore loser?

It’s a pretty good article and it does point out a few cases where people _have_ been turned away from the ER

Right, Aaron. Have an elderly or sickly relative go without that “privilege” for a while, and see if you still feel the same way.

The other funny thing here, Aaron, is your reference to emergency room care. Use of emergency rooms is anything but fiscally conservative; people who have no other health care options but emergency rooms generally cost far more to treat than those who have regular check-ups and preventive care. Do you want to save taxpayers’ money, or just to knock John Kerry and something that you feel is too “socialized,” to quote from an earlier post?

I do agree with you on the last paragraph, though–Kerry is clearly grandstanding. Almost as bad as a blogger, eh?
