Gubernatorial Candidates On Gay Marriage
by Matt Margolis, July 17th, 2006 at 06:32am

The Metro recently asked the candidates for governor about their views on gay marriage. It boils down to this:
Thomas Reilly: Supports gay marriage, thinks voters would vote against an amendment, but doesn’t want them to vote on it anyway.**
Chris Gabrieli: Supports gay marriage, thinks legislature will vote against amendment.
Deval Patrick: Supports gay marriage, wants legislature to vote against amendment.
Kerry Healey: Let the people vote on it. Supports civil unions.
Christy Mihos: Supports gay marriage and gay adoption. Says “let the people vote,” and believes they’ll vote it down.
Of the candidates for gay marriage, only one has enough faith in the voters to specifically advocate that they have a say on the issue: Chrisy Mihos. The reason for this… probably because Patrick, Reilly, and Gabrieli are the ones actively courting the gay community and gay interest groups for their support that they don’t want to risk losing that support and cash by saying that the people of Massachusetts ought to vote on it. The legislature effectively saved them from having to address this issue for the remainder of the campaign, thus preventing them from having to explain why they trust the voters to vote for them, but not to vote on marriage.
UPDATE: An earlier article from The Boston Globe indicates that Reilly wanted the legislature to vote on the amendment, as said if he was in the legislature he’d vote against. He clearly expects they’ll eventually vote against it. I take this to believe he does not want the people to vote on the issue… however, considering his past opposition to gay marriage, perhaps he is saying one thing, but hoping for another.

Anyone know of a place that has a run down of where the state reps and senators stand on the amendment?

“NEWTON — Attorney General Thomas F. Reilly urged the Legislature yesterday to vote on a proposed ban of same-sex marriage next month…say[ing] that lawmakers should not try to kill the measure through procedural maneuvers.
Reilly…was the only Democrat yesterday to say the scheduled vote should take place.”[http://www.boston.com/]

Basically ..obi juan
Those who voted for delay are “for” Gay Marriage, and those who wanted to vote now are “against” Gay Marriage.
Most hacks will not tip their hand as to how they will vote, the ones confident in RE-election will, but most will not. I’ll check around for some info.
