Massachusetts: The Gay Las Vegas? Al Gore Is Coming To Cambridge

State GOP Selects New Executive Director

by Aaron Margolis, July 7th, 2006 at 09:34pm

The Massachusetts GOP has selected a new executive director–but despite reports from Eyewitness News WPRI and WRKO, GOP Chairman Darrell Crate is still the chairman of the Party.

Brian Dodge, who worked for ex-governors Paul Cellucci and Jane Swift, replaces outgoing G-O-P Executive Director Darrell Crate.

After leaving the Statehouse in 2001, the Groveland native worked in the Washington office of New York Congressman Jack Quinn. He later joined the lobbying firm Cassidy and Associates.

Crate says one of his successor’s top goals will be to help elect Lieutenant Governor Kerry Healey to the governor’s office and assist other Republican candidates.

Mark Rowe — who headed the state party on an interim basis — will continue to serve as deputy chairman.

We reported over a month ago that then Massachusetts Republican Party Executive Director Matt Wylie had accomplished his goals in that position, as was moving to possibly work for a campaign. It seems like Eyewitness News got their names and titles mixed up.

The Massachusetts GOP has confirmed that Darrell Crate is still the Chairman, and that Brian Dodge is the successor to Matt Wylie, not Chairman Crate.

The only people who can change the Chairman of the Party is the State Committee - and we haven’t met since May 9th! (We do have a July meeting scheduled). BTW - we aim to keep Darrell Crate as long as possible!

It’s taking civics out of schools - truly, most reporters don’t understand how government and civic life are operated, and just regurgitate a press release instead of trying to find out.
