The Failing Campaign of Christy Mihos

by Matt Margolis, June 15th, 2006 at 01:41pm

The campaign of Christy Mihos is in big trouble. The news of him choosing a running mate may have gave him some much needed publicity, but he is in need of something besides publicity right now: support. Recent Suffolk Polls have him earning the support of a dismal 10%. In addition to that, those who do support him are not contributing to his campaign. Christy has abandoned his Proposition $1 Million, (a fundraising campaign where he hoped to raise a million dollars and match every donation he received dollar for dollar) due to lack of support. OCPF reports confirm that Christy lags far behind everyone else in fundraising.

I wouldn’t expect the addition of a running mate to result in a flood of campaign cash or any statistically significant jump in support, either. While Christy is wealthy, he hasn’t been as bold as Chris Gabrieli to set a amount of how much he is willing to spend out-of-pocket to fund his go-nowhere campaign. I think it is safe to say that Mihos has no intention to spend any more on his campaign than he has to.

So, this begs the question, “Why is Christy Mihos running for governor?” Is it because he thinks he has a chance of winning, and really wants to Governor? Doubtful. The longer he carries on his campaign, the more it becomes apparent to me his intentions are self-serving. Maybe he’s running simply to be the spoiler for Kerry Healey… perhaps as an act of vengeance against the Massachusetts Republican Party? Whatever his motives are, he seems to be doing this for the wrong reasons. He simply doesn’t have the support to justify staying in the race. I’m positive he knows that.

Yes spoiler, and vengeance against Kerry Healey and the Republican Party both. It goes back to the Jane Swift days. Mihos got his feelings hurt, and has never forgot. I for one am glad to purge the Republican Party of his flaky nonsense. I hope after the November elections, the only reference to Christy’s mentioned is for 20 oz. Slurpy’s.

Agreed, Knightbrigade. He’s one person the Republican Party can do without. Hopefully he can return to the Slurpy machines sooner than the November elections. Massachusetts can’t afford for Mihos to hand the race to Democrats on a silver platter.
