Why Not Fix The Roads?
by Matt Margolis, July 21st, 2005 at 10:29am

We reported last week that the new MBTA buses were being taken out of service due to alleged steering problems…
Well, it appears now the buses are going to be fixed…
Mechanics will attach metal plates to the bottoms of the newest Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority buses to protect them from damage caused by bumps and potholes on local roads.
Isn’t that great? It didn’t occur to them that maybe they should fix the roads, but instead, they’ll add metal plates to the bottoms of the buses so they can handle all the bumps and potholes… Meanwhile those of us not taking public transportation risk damaging our own cars.
If our tax dollars are paying for it wouldn’t you rather the bumps and potholes be fixed—which would benefit everyone—rather than paying for metal plates which only benefit those taking these new buses?
